Fisher TANGENT News & Events
Fisher Farm & Lawn is always looking for ways to increase yield and minimize costs for their customers. That’s why, at the suggestion of John Deere representative Phil Harden, they spent two years and approximately $100,000 modifying the 4995 Windrower with 995 Rotary Head for use with grass seed.

John Deere had designed the 995 Rotary Head to cut straw with spinning rotary blades and form the windrow using airflow. To customize the rotary head for use on grass seed, the technicians at Fisher Implement removed the hay conditioner rolls and replaced them with two rotating drums. Behind the rotating drums, they placed two free-rolling drums set an angle to ensure that the seed heads would be oriented correctly as they fell to the ground.

While yield remains the same, harvesting with this modified windrower means lower costs for the customer. Customers double their mowing speed, which increases from 8 acres per hour to between 15 and 20. As an added benefit, rotary blade replacement costs only 5% of what the customer would spend to replace sickles on an annual basis. These savings more than offset the machine’s higher purchase price.

Dozens of the modified 4995 Windrowers with 995 Rotary Head are at work in Valley farms this summer and are proving their value to their owners. As developers of this platform, Fisher Farm & Lawn has been given exclusive rights to its sale. Growers are invited to contact their local Fisher Farm & Lawn store to learn more.
