Fisher Farm & Lawn, HARRISBURG


In about 1906, A. J. “Tom” Hill purchased a Halsey hardware store that had been established in 1894, renaming it Hill & Company Hardware. To that company, he added a John Deere dealership. He served a farming community of about 500 people, whose primary crops were rye grass, oats, barley, wheat, and vetch.


Hill sold his John Deere dealership to Harold Fisher, owner of Fisher Implement Company, in 1938. It was a time of great transition in agriculture, as farmers traded in their horses to purchase tractors and tractor-drawn equipment.


Over the years, the South Valley business grew, and new facilities were needed to service their customers. So, in 1973, the Fisher Implement Company moved their Halsey business its present large, modern facility in Harrisburg.


Now, with the town of Harrisburg experiencing tremendous growth, and the Eugene urban area expanding northward, the store sales lot, which has in years past been filled with large agricultural equipment, contains an increasing quantity of consumer equipment—small tractors and lawn mowers. Store Manager, Dick Langdon looks at the changes positively, however, because he is confident that, “The changes we make will always be a reflection of the core values that we have held for generations.”
