SALEM FISHER FARM & LAWN—GROWING AND CHANGING WITH AGRICULTURE SINCE 1965


The Fisher Farm & Lawn's Salem store is an outgrowth of a small Independence store, which was founded in 1965 by Everett and Jim Richards. At that store, salesmen worked hard to win the business of area farmers, and their skill, ingenuity, and persistence resulted in the store’s success.


During the 1990s, the area’s demographics changed dramatically, necessitating many adjustments to the business. Historically, the store had been distinctly agricultural, with customers who grew mint, grass seed, wheat, filberts and other tree crops, and vegetables on farms measured in the hundreds of acres. In an effort to maintain profitability, however, farms consolidated. At the same time that the number of farms was decreasing, many people were exiting the city and taking up home gardening, so small equipment sales grew. In response to these changes, the Fisher Implement Company moved their Independence store to West Salem, on Hwy 20.


In 1999, the Fisher Implement Company merged with the Ernst Hardware and Irrigation Company and, as a result, had two stores serving the Rickreal area. They chose to move the Salem store, building a new facility in North Salem. The new location allowed them to be in the midst of that area’s agricultural customers while still being easily accessible to the Salem urban population.


In acknowledgement of the expanding hobby farming and grounds care markets, the Fisher Implement Company stores were renamed "Fisher Farm & Lawn" in 2008. The Company is excited the market growth in Marion County and poised to meet the needs associated with that growth.
