MCMINNVILLE FISHER FARM & LAWN—PROUD TO REPRESENT JOHN DEERE IN YAMHILL COUNTY


The original John Deere implement store in McMinnville was the DeHaven Tractor and Implement Company, established in 1941. It was located downtown at Third and Cowls Streets and operated in conjunction with a hardware store. In the first twenty years of its history, the company saw several ownership groups. In 1961, however, Norm Bernards, store salesman, purchased the store, which was then operating under the name, “Cascade Tractor and Implement Company.”


Bernards was proud to sell John Deere equipment and made Cascade Tractor his lifelong career. Upon his retirement in 1988, Bernards sold his business to the Ernst Hardware and Irrigation Company of St. Paul. Under their ownership, the present facility on Highway 99 was built. In 1999, the McMinnville store was a part of the merger with Fisher Implement Company. Store employees were proud to be a part of that organization and immediately elected to change their name to the “Fisher Implement Company.” More recently, in 2008, the Fisher stores were renamed "Fisher Farm & Lawn."


The McMinnville store has seen numerous internal changes during its history, but it has seen even more changes to its market and their corresponding inventory needs. Dairy, wheat, and row crops were the early agricultural mainstays, but in the last two decades, these have been eclipsed by vineyards and nurseries.


McMinnville Fisher Farm & Lawn remains, however, committed to helping the farmer make more money and spend less of it on his cost of operation; providing employees with a good working salary; and giving back to the community. Pursuit of these goals will help ensure a prosperous future for the McMinnville Fisher Farm & Lawn and also for the farmers and community of Yamhill County
