The most trusted seed meter is now more precise than ever.
The John Deere VacuMeter™ system on MaxEmerge and Pro-Series row units gently pulls and holds individually selected seeds to the seed holes on a flat disk (or cells on a cell disk) for unbeatable population control and accurate spacing.
A new, precision-machined center hub and housing, plus a heavier hub spring, ensure exact disk rotation within the meter for accurate singulation and precise seed drop. Every seed is consistently released above the seed tube so it clears the tube and lands in the furrow right where you want.
Our vacuum seed meter can plant a wide variety of crops and seed types. You simply change the seed disks and adjust the vacuum level. An improved disk-latching handle allows for effortless seed disk changeover.
On the subject of disks, it’s important to note that there is no one "standard vacuum disk." There are two types of disks: cell and flat. When you compare the performance of disks made by other suppliers, make sure you’re comparing cells to cells, flats to flats.
The cell disk allows planting a specific range of seed sizes without any additional parts or meter adjustments. It also has a lower vacuum requirement when compared with a flat disk. Lower vacuum levels means less hydraulic demand on the tractor.
A flat disk is recommended in crops where seed is typically difficult to singulate because of inconsistent sizes or shapes. A flat disk does not have a cell to help carry the seed but simply a hole in the disk. Because of this, the flat disk requires a higher vacuum level. The higher the vacuum level, the increased chance two seeds will be drawn to the individual holes. This requires additional meter components: A double eliminator and a knockout wheel.
The double eliminator on Pro-Series row units has been redesigned with a center detent position. This position accurately singulates more than 90 percent of today’s seed sizes and shapes. When planting seeds at the opposite ends of the size spectrum, you can use the larger or smaller setting on the double eliminator to adjust the coverage of the hole. Best of all, these settings are uniform on every row unit, so you get unbeatable accuracy across your planter. No other meter offers this level of convenience and flexibility.
These new meter enhancements are standard on all John Deere MaxEmerge and Pro-Series planters built beginning in May 2007. If you want to take advantage of these enhancements for your current John Deere planter, see your John Deere dealer today and get special limited-time pricing on upgrade kits.
